Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based voice service available on more than 100 million devices from Amazon and third party device manufacturers. With Alexa, it is possible to build natural voice experiences that offer customers a more intuitive way to interact with the technology they use every day.
DEKRA provides a true one-stop-shop testing and certification approach for Internet of Things (IoT) device certification, covering the most relevant mobile and wireless technologies worldwide. The recent additions to their extensive testing and assessment portfolio are services to manufacturers of devices that integrate Alexa Voice Services (AVS) into their products. Manufacturers can now work directly with DEKRA and utilize ATL and ASL laboratory services to test their products, attend the test sessions in the DEKRA laboratories together with their skilled test engineers, and submit their products for certification to reach the final market in a smooth and fast way.
As an ATL lab for AVS, DEKRA uses test automation and a series of checklists provided by Amazon to ensure that products meet acoustics, music, functional as well as user experience (UX) requirements. DEKRA generates certification test results in the form of Alexa Qualification Tool (AQT) reports and manual checklists, for submission to Amazon.
“We are excited to be recognized by Amazon as an authorized lab for Alexa Built-in devices. We see an increased market growth and use of voice control features in IoT devices, specifically in the smart living ecosystem, where DEKRA offers and develops a wide range of testing and certification services. Needless to say, it’s key that voice control services in smart devices meet security and performance standards”, says Fernando E. Hardasmal, Executive Vice President and Head of Service Division Product Testing at DEKRA.
DEKRA is also authorized to perform security testing, allowing device makers that incorporate AVS, to obtain a security assessment report. The tests include an evaluation of the hardware security as well as software update mechanisms, host hardening methods, authentication and incident response mechanism that helps device makers to reduce the overall threat surface.
