DEKRA extends its SASO accreditation scope for RoHS regulation in Europe

  • From July 2022, RoHS regulation is mandatory to market electrical and electronic devices in Saudi Arabia.

DEKRA extends its accreditation scope in Europe as an approved Certification Body by SASO (the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization) by adding the RoHS regulation, a group of standards that restrict the use of toxic and hazardous materials in electronic products. The RoHS regulation is entering gradually into force in July 2022. Complying with these regulations will be mandatory to commercialize electrical and electronic products in Saudi Arabia. Also, from July, the SASO accredited Certification Bodies (CB) will need to have the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) & RoHS regulations within their accreditation scope, since they will only issue one Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for both regulations.

Recently, DEKRA also added the RoHS regulations to its SASO accreditation scope in China. Therefore, DEKRA is a Certification Body for Saudi Arabia able to support customers in both Europe and Asia to certify their products to access the Saudi Arabia market.

DEKRA's scope includes certifications for products such as electric batteries and low voltage electrical devices and equipment, such as cooling appliances -like freezers and refrigerators-, kitchen appliances, electrical components, luminaries and lithium batteries. Depending on the type of product, the date when RoHS regulations enter into force vary:

Product category Implementation date
Small household appliances 04/07/2022
Large household appliances 02/10/2022
Telecom and IT appliances 31/12/2022
Luminaires equipment 31/03/2023
Electric and Electronic tools and equipment 29/06/2023
Toys, entertainment and sports equipment 27/09/2023
Monitoring and control equipment 26/12/2023

In addition, DEKRA provides further services in Saudi Arabia, such as IECEE schemes, GCC Certification and Energy Efficiency Registration (EER). DEKRA also delivers certification and GMA services for other countries in the Middle East like Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrein, Oman.
