DEKRA's extended energy efficiency certification scope for household appliances in Latin America
DEKRA was recently accredited by CGCRE INMETRO, a Brazilian accreditation body, to certify refrigerators, freezers, dryers, washing machines and air conditioners according to the Energy Efficiency (EE) requirements of Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama and Peru. DEKRA is one of the very few Certification Bodies for EE in Peru.
“We are very pleased to extend our EE service scope for Latin American countries and to support our customers even better in their process for placing energy efficient products on the markets”, said César Valencia, Director Business Line Product Certification at DEKRA.
Appliances that are energy efficient can save money and energy. Reducing energy use is also seen as a solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Many countries in Latin America have developed and implemented their own EE certification schemes as well as technical regulations. This is to ensure that the performance (energy use) of electrical products imported into the country comply with the essential energy consumption requirements of each regulation. Importers and manufacturers that intend to supply any regulated goods into those markets, need to make sure their products comply with the requirements.
The EE certification for the specified Latin American countries is mandatory for all regulated products and the certificates need to be issued by an accredited Certification Body. The certification program requires a high degree of intervention from Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) and testing laboratories, which provide third party expertise by conducting an evaluation and a subsequent review of test results (certification) to determine the performance/consumption during a product life cycle. When all the requirements of the EE Mark scheme are met, the electrical equipment placed on the market shall bear the EE label.
DEKRA can support manufacturers and importers with testing and certification services to attain the required EE label for the above mentioned products and markets. The testing can be performed in DEKRA laboratories.
