Details
Period:2014 - 2016
Objectives:As part of the ambitious European FI-PPP program, FIWARE has materialized as a powerful foundation for the Future Internet. FIWARE is an innovative, open cloud-based infrastructure for the cost-effective creation and delivery of services on a scale not seen before. FIWARE aims to boost the effectiveness of creating new services of high economic and societal value, reinforcing EU competitiveness, and bringing opportunities for high-growth entrepreneurs and SME players.
After an intensive period of research, development, and experimentation, the FI-Core Consortium aims to complete the FI-PPP vision and support a truly open innovation ecosystem around FIWARE Lab. FIWARE Lab is a working instance of FIWARE distributed across multiple data centers in Europe and is effectively operated using the suite of FIWARE Ops tools. The FI-Core project delivers:
Technology extensions that introduce new capabilities to the platform, with a focus on those believed to carry substantial economic potential and future relevance. Examples include new generic enablers in the areas of Robotics, Open Data, and Network Function Virtualization.
Means for platform availability, including the launch of operational FIWARE nodes across Europe with resources and tools to support them, as well as extensive FIWARE education and training programs for Web entrepreneurs and SMEs.
Processes and tools for platform sustainability, ensuring outreach and dissemination of current and ongoing results, namely FIWARE, FIWARE Ops, and FIWARE Lab. These will form a globally competitive foundation for Europe's economy.
