DEKRA has been recognized by Wi-Fi Alliance as an accredited laboratory to certify products according to Wi-Fi CERTIFIED HaLow™ certification program. This recognition has been granted to DEKRA laboratories located in Málaga (Spain) and Shenzhen (Mainland China). Wi-Fi HaLow is a new type of Wi-Fi especially designed for Internet-of-Things (IoT) environments. It offers a long-range and low power connection, allowing robust connection even through walls or other obstacles, and extends the lifetime of batteries in devices. From now on, DEKRA can support manufacturers and certify their devices according to Wi-Fi HaLow specifications.
“We are proud that two DEKRA laboratories have been accredited to certify Wi-Fi HaLow products. It's a big milestone, especially in Europe, where we are the first and currently only accredited lab for this new standard. In addition, our fast-growing lab in Shenzhen was extremely fast to add the new capabilities. With this new accreditation, we widen our wireless services portfolio and we can support our customers in two key regions”, said Thomas Jäger, Senior Vice President of DEKRA’s Service Division Product Testing.
Wi-Fi Alliance designs different types of Wi-Fi standards, each one with a specific application. Wi-Fi HaLow is a new variety of Wi-Fi that has been especially created to improve connectivity efficiency in IoT environments. It is specially designed for low power consumption devices such as security cameras, sensors and wearables. The key focus on developing this technology was to provide a solution to the high-power consumption when multiple devices are simultaneously connected, which is a common scenario in IoT environments. Wi-Fi HaLow offers a long-range, approximately 1 kilometer, a solid connection that is strong enough to penetrate walls and other barriers that may affect the stability of the connection and low energy consumption, which extends the battery lifetime of the devices.
Besides, Wi-Fi HaLow provides interoperability between products of different vendors and an easy setup without interrupting existing Wi-Fi networks. It also implements security measures, which makes it a secure, low power and high-performance wireless technology for the IoT ecosystem.
DEKRA also offers services for other Wi-Fi Alliance certification programs, such as Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi Easy Connect, Wi-Fi Easy Mesh, WPA3, Miracast, Wi-Fi Direct, PassPoint, Wi-Fi Agile Multiband, Wi-Fi Aware, Wi-Fi Data Elements, among others. In addition, DEKRA also provides testing and certification services for different connectivity technologies, as well as type approval, regulatory, global market access and cybersecurity services.
